The Movie
As the writing team of TATTED SOULS THE MOVIE, Raine Lucas and Marcus Lucas are reaching out to our family, friends, and community to help us not only reach our personal aspiration and dream of bringing this film to fruition but also in doing so we are bringing awareness to social issues as well as challenging learning abilities.
TATTED SOULS THE MOVIE co-writer Marcus Lucas was approached by Shonda Harris to write this story. He has his own personal challenges with dyslexia and was also challenged with writing a story about a life and culture he knew very little about. He came to me, his niece, to help him write the story. As a black christian lesbian, I have had my own challenges and struggles and he asked that I share my personal experiences. Marcus also took the time to speak with other people in the LGBTQ community in order to open his mind and heart to understanding that we all can love the same. There should not be judgment.
I am very passionate about this project because I feel it touches on subject matter we tend to shy away from and even sweep under the proverbial rug. I truly feel that the hard conversations need to take place within families and our society. Our youth and young adults continue to struggle and suffer because of social issues and too many are homeless. Suicide and suicide attempts among gay teens is higher than that of heterosexual teens. 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of sexual abuse according to The National Center for Victims of Crime. 10-15% of the US population has dyslexia yet only 5 out of every 100 are recognized and receive assistance according to The Dyslexia Research Institute. Our film will discuss such issues. We want to bring greater awareness and get the world talking about these issues and create positive dialogue to empower.

Our Timeline
We've already mapped out our shooting locations plan for TATTED SOULS, and it goes like this:
September 2016: we'll start filming TATTED SOULS in Oklahoma, Texas, and Miami.
December 2016: after editing, we'll submit the finished cut of TATTED SOULS to one of the world's major international film festivals and submissions to many more festivals in 2017. If TATTED SOULS gets accepted into one of these prestigious festivals, our chances of getting a worldwide DVD/Blu-ray distribution deal will increase dramatically.
Risks & Challenges
There are a lot of challenges that go along with filmmaking-most of them are unpredictable.
To overcome this challenge, we will strive to make sure that all filming is done in a professional and timely manner.
We would like to state again just how much our hearts are in this project, and that we are entirely committed to completing this project. We will do everything humanly possible to overcome any obstacle that we come up against so that we can share TATTED SOULS with the world!
